Carpenter bees prefer bare wood, but they will attack painted wood surfaces as well. You can also add oil or polyurethane finishes to the exterior. Preventative insecticide or borate dust can be used to control existing carpenter bee populations. Plan to spray the exterior of your log home early in the season.
